Why the desktop is harder
Instagram's website is built for browsing, not for keeping files. There is no download control on a post, and right-clicking often gives you a menu the page controls rather than your browser's. The file still exists — it is simply not offered to you.
Step by step (works the same on Windows and Mac)
1Get the post linkCopy it from the address bar, or from the share menu on the phone if you found the post there.
2Open PicVault in your browserAny modern browser works: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari.
3Paste the link and fetchThe photos appear as they exist on Instagram.
4Save to your machineYour browser's normal download flow handles the rest — the file lands in your Downloads folder, where you can move it anywhere.
No extension needed
Browser extensions that "add a download button" to Instagram need permission to read and change everything you do on every site you visit. A browser-based downloader needs none of that: you paste a link, you get a file, and nothing is installed.
On macOS, Safari sometimes opens WebP files in Preview without an obvious "save as" step — drag the preview to your desktop, or use Chrome or Firefox if you prefer a plain download.
What it will not do
- No private posts, and no login to reach them.
- No videos or Reels — photos and photo carousels only.
- No bulk scraping of an entire account. It works on the post whose link you paste.
